Ether 12

The prophet Ether lived at the end of the Jaredite people’s time when a man named Coriantumr1 was king. As he grew older, Ether spent all of his hours of all his days warning the people that unless they repented, and came again to align themselves with God, they would be destroyed. Ether prophesied amazing things; but the people didn’t believe him, because they couldn’t see for themselves what he was talking about.

Faith centers around things that are hoped for, but cannot be seen, wrote Moroni. Faith often determines what we see. It was by faith that Jesus Christ showed himself after his resurrection. It is by faith that we can hope to partake of Jesus Christ’s gift. It was by faith that Mahonri was able to see the finger of God.

It is by faith that I know that this record, which God has commanded me to make, will come to the people of the earth in the last days. I have talked with God about the records and asked if it weren’t the case that, “the Gentiles who will find these records will mock them because of the weak quality of our writing abilities.”

“Fools who mock your records,” God replied to me, “will be sorry. My grace will be sufficient for anyone who humbles himself before me and has faith in me. Your weak efforts will become strong for those who believe.”

I prayed that God’s words were true and that the future readers of my record would treat it charitably, and God replied, “If they don’t receive your words generously, it will be through no fault of your own. You have been faithful to me. Because you see your weakness, you will be made strong, and a place will be made for you in my kingdom.”

When we meet at the time of Jesus Christ’s judgment, you will know that I have seen him and that he talked with me directly. Therefore, I advise you to seek out this Jesus Christ, about whom the prophets and apostles have written, so that his grace may rest on you.
