None of Ether’s warnings or teachings was heeded. He reviewed the history of the world from the time of God’s creation. He foretold of Jesus Christ’s coming, of the destruction of Old Jerusalem in Israel, of the descendants of Israel’s son Joseph1 of Egypt journeying to America as the Jaredites had done, and of the building of a New Jerusalem on the American continent by these descendants of Joseph. Ether’s prophecies were thought to be ridiculous and he was banished from the people he sought to inform. He hid in a cave during the day and wrote his record. At night he went out and witnessed the judgments that were brought down upon the people.
Great wars engulfed all of the land and all of the people. God commanded Ether to seek out the king, Coriantumr, and bring his prophecy to him. God promised to restore peace, and the kingdom, and to spare the people if only Coriantumr would repent. Coriantumr was told that if he failed to repent, another people would receive this promised land, and all of Coriantumr’s people would die, except for him. His life would be preserved long enough for him to see the truth of Ether’s prophecy, and watch as another people received all the land that he now claimed as his. Ether’s prophecy was rejected by Coriantumr’s household. The wars and killings continued. Many people now wished Ether dead, and tried to kill him; but he eluded them by living apart from the people, in caves, watching as control of the land shifted back and forth between the warring factions.
A warrior named Shared arose, who overcame Coriantumr in battle and took him prisoner. Coriantumr’s sons defeated Shared and reclaimed the kingdom for their father; but Shared continued his warfare against the kingdom. Coriantumr destroyed Shared’s army during a series of battles, and killed Shared himself, but during the battle Shared wounded Corantumr badly. The king spent two years recovering while renegade warriors pillaged and killed across the land without any restraint.
