Chapter 7 of the Second Book of Nephi is virtually indistinguishable, word for word, from Chapter 50 of Isaiah from the Old Testament.
Jacob reads Isaiah’s words from the plates brought by the Nephites from Jerusalem. God speaks through Isaiah and places responsibility for their captivity on the people of Israel’s own unfortunate behavior. God reminds the people of his ability to redeem them and his unwillingness to do so if they abuse and scorn God for their predicament.
