2 Nephi 8

Chapter 8 of the Second Book of Nephi is virtually indistinguishable, word for word, from Chapter 51, and Chapter 52: Verses 1–2, of Isaiah from the Old Testament.

Jacob continues reading Isaiah’s words to the Nephites. Speaking through Isaiah, God reminds the people of Israel that he has blessed and protected them since the time of Abraham and Sarah. He reminds them that in the days of Moses, he helped them to defeat the pharaoh of Egypt and to escape from bondage. God declares Israel’s children as his people, and promises them freedom again. God’s anger with his people is now spent. The recent desolation and destruction that has been the lot of Israel’s descendants will now fall on the backs of their tormenters. “Rise up,” God says, “and you will soon be free from slavery.”
