Mormon 8

I am Moroni, son of Mormon. I will finish the record of my father. I have only a few things to write. I will write what my father told me to write.

After the final battle at Cumorah, the Nephites who escaped were hunted down and killed. My father was also killed. They are all dead except me.

I am all alone to write this sad story of my lost people. I do not know if they will kill me. When I am finished writing, I will hide these records in the earth. Then it will not matter where I go.

My father, Mormon, wrote this book. Afterwards, he was killed in battle with all my family. I have no friends left alive. I have no place to go. I do not know how long the Lord will let me live.

Four hundred years have passed away since the birth of our Lord. The Lamanites have hunted the Nephites from city to city and from place to place, until they are all dead. The Lord has allowed it because of their sins.

Now the Lamanites are at war with each other and with the gangs of robbers. The whole land is one constant round of war and murder.

There are none who know the true God. Even the three disciples have been sent out of this land. No one knows where they went, but my father and I have seen them and they have blessed us.

I, Moroni, am the son of Mormon. I am the person who will hide this book in Cumorah. These plates of gold are of no worth to man, because God says no one will have them to get money. But the words are of great worth and the Lord will bless whoever brings them to the world. Blessed is he who brings this book to the world by God’s power.

If there are any mistakes in this book, they are the mistakes of a human. Anyone who rejects this book will be in danger of hell fire. Whoever breathes out anger and trouble against the Lord’s work is in great danger. Whoever is against the Lord’s promised people is in danger of being cut down and thrown into the fire.

The Lord’s eternal purposes will roll on until all His promises happen. They will happen in a time when many people will say there are no more miracles. It will come in a time when God’s power will be denied. Churches will be lifted up in pride. It will come in a time when leaders of different churches will argue to get more members.

It will come in a time when people hear about fires and storms and smoke in foreign lands. There will be wars, rumors of wars and earthquakes in many places.

It will come when the earth has great pollution. There will be murders, robbing, lying, cheating and all kinds of sins. Many people will say: It is okay to do this or that, because the Lord will say it does not matter. Churches will say: Come to us, we will forgive your sins for your money.

You evil and stubborn people, why do you build up churches to get gain? Why have you changed the holy words of God? Look to the revelations of God; for all these things will happen.

The Lord has shown me great and wonderful things about the last days when these words will come to you. There will only be a few who do not lift themselves up in pride and wear fine clothes. Most will love money, fine clothes and fancy churches more than they love the poor, needy, sick and injured.

Why pollute the holy church of God? Why be ashamed to take on you the name of Christ? Why dress in clothes that have no life [furs and jewelry] while you let the hungry and sick pass by you without even noticing them?

Why form secret groups to get gain? You cause widows to cry to the Lord and orphans to cry to the Lord for help. God’s sword of revenge hangs over you.
