Helaman 11

For three years things got worse and worse. Nephi prayed to the Lord, saying: Lord, do not allow this people to be destroyed. Let there be a famine in the land to help them remember you. Maybe they will repent .

By the words of Nephi, a famine came; there was little food. The earth was dry and did not grow food for three years. In the more wicked parts of the land, thousands of people died. When the people saw they were about to starve, they began to remember God.

The people began to beg Nephi, saying: We know you are a man of God. Pray to our God to stop this famine.

When Nephi saw the people had repented and were humble, he prayed saying: O Lord, the people do repent. They have swept away the gang from among them. Now, O Lord, because of their humility, will you turn away your anger and stop the famine. O Lord, will you listen to me and let my words happen. Send rain to the earth. Let the earth grow fruit and grain.

The Lord turned his anger away and sent rain and made the fruit and grain grow. The people were so happy.

They gave thanks and glory to God. The people treated Nephi like a great prophet, a man of God having great power and authority. His brother, Lehi, was not a whit behind him as to righteousness.

The Nephites began to grow rich again and spread across the whole land, both in the north and in the south and from the West Sea to the East Sea.

Nephi and Lehi and many of their brothers knew the true gospel. They had revelations daily. So they preached to the people and stopped the arguing.

Some Lamanites murdered and robbed. They would run back into the mountains and their secret places. They became a strong gang of robbers.
