Ether 12

Ether was a prophet of the Lord when Coriantumr was king of all the land. Ether began to prophesy to the people. He preached to the people from morning until the sun went down. He taught the people to believe in God and to repent.

Ether said to them: Those who believe in God can hope for a better world. Faith makes an anchor to the souls of men. Faith will make you sure and steady.

I, Moroni, speak about faith. Faith is to hope for things you have not yet seen. Do not complain if you do not see all things, you will get to see them after your faith has been tested.

It is first by faith that God can do miracles. God has never done any miracles until after people showed their faith in His Son.

It was first by faith that Alma and Amulek made the prison walls fall. It was first by faith that the three disciples were promised they would not taste death.

I know God works with us by our faith. Moriancumer said to the mountain Zerin: Remove. And it was removed.

All the prophets had faith before they did miracles. It was first by our fathers’ faith that Christ showed Himself to our people. He did not show Himself to the people until after they had faith in Him.

There were many people whose faith was so strong they could not be kept from seeing into heaven. Moriancumer had such great faith.

When God put out His finger, Moriancumer could see it. After Moriancumer had seen the finger of the Lord, the Lord could not keep anything from his sight.

I, Moroni, have seen Jesus, too. He talked with me face to face and He told me in plain humility about these things.

I have written only a few things He showed me, because of my weakness in writing. The Lord told me to write them, but I said to Him: I am weak in writing. People will make fun of these words. We can only write a little, because of the difficulty in writing on these metal plates. You have not made us mighty in writing like Moriancumer. The things he wrote were mighty like you. His words overpower anyone who reads them.

The Lord answered: If you come to me, I will show you your weakness. I give people weakness so they will be humble. If you humble yourself and have faith in me, I will make your weakness strong. I will show you that faith, hope and charity will bring you back to me.

When I, Moroni, heard these words, I was comforted. I know people must have charity, which is pure love.
