The Book of Ether

Ether 1

I, Moroni, tell the story of a people who lived here long before the Nephites or Lamanites. Their story is written on twenty-four metal plates. The plates were found by the people of Limhi. It is called the Book of Ether.

Long ago, in the Old Testament land, people built the tower of Babel. The Lord was angry with them. He confused their languages and scattered them over the earth.

One group was lead by Jared. He, his brother, Moriancumer and their families, were near the tower of Babel. Moriancumer was highly favored by the Lord. The Lord had mercy on them and let them keep their language.

The Lord told Moriancumer: Gather your flocks and seeds and your families and friends. I will lead you to a land that is rich above all the lands of the earth. I will make you and your people a great nation. I will do this because of the long time you prayed to me.
