Alma then returned to his house in Zarahemla to rest. Next, he went to the land of Melek and baptized people throughout the land. Alma then traveled three days to a city called Ammonihah.
Satan held their hearts. They would not listen. Alma wrestled in mighty prayer with God for the people in this city, but they would not soften their hearts.
They said to him: We know you are Alma the high priest over the Church. We are not of your church. We do not believe in your foolish ideas. We know you have no power over us.
They spit on Alma and threw him out of their city. Alma went away to the next city. He was weighed down with great sadness, because of the sins of the people of Ammonihah. An angel of the Lord came to him, saying: Blessed are you, Alma. Lift up your head and have joy. You have great reason to be happy. You have obeyed God’s commandments from the time you were given the first message from him.
Return to Ammonihah. Preach again to the people. They are planning to destroy your people. Tell them that if they do not repent, the Lord will destroy them.
So Alma returned speedily to Ammonihah. He entered the city by another way. He said to a man: Will you give a humble servant of God something to eat?
The man said to him: I am Amulek, a Nephite. I know you are a holy prophet of God. An angel told me to look for you. Come in my house; I will share my food.
When Alma was full, he blessed Amulek and his house and gave thanks to God. Alma stayed many days with Amulek before Alma began to preach to the people.
The people were growing more evil. God’s word came to Alma, saying: Take Amulek and prophesy to this people. Tell them: If you do not repent, you will be destroyed.
Filled with the Holy Ghost, Alma and Amulek went teaching the people. They were given power. No jail could hold them. No one could kill them. This was done so the Lord could show His power in them.
