Alma 61

Soon after Moroni sent his letter to Pahoran, he received a letter back from him. These are the words he wrote: I, Pahoran, send these words to Moroni. Your great hardships sadden my soul, but there are people here who joy in your troubles. They have rebelled against us. They try to take away the judgment seat.

They keep back your supplies and have threatened our freemen to not come to you. They have driven me out and have taken control of the city of Zarahemla.

They have set up a king over them, named Pachus. He has written to the Lamanites with an offer to join them. I have fled to the land of Gideon with as many men as I could get. I sent a notice throughout this part of the land. The people are flocking to us every day to save their country and their freedom.

In your letter, you have blamed me, but I am not angry. I rejoice in the greatness of your heart. I, Pahoran, do not seek for power, but only to retain my judgment-seat that I may keep the rights and the liberty of my people.

Please, come to me speedily with a few of your men. I have sent a few provisions to you so your army will not die before you can come to me. Gather your force and come here. We will go speedily against the rebels and we will take back the city of Zarahemla. Then we will have more food to send to your armies.

Moroni, I joy in your letter, for I was worried about what to do. I did not know if it would be right to fight against the rebels in our own land. But you said the Lord told you to go against them.

Give strength to Lehi and Teancum. Tell them to fear not, for God will save them and all who stand firm in the liberty God has given them. Now I close my letter to my beloved brother, Moroni.
