Moroni wrote to Governor Pahoran. These are the words he wrote: I write this letter to Pahoran and to all who have been chosen by the people to manage the affairs of this war. I am upset with you all. You were supposed to arm men and send them to us to battle the Lamanites.
My men and Helaman’s men have suffered greatly with hunger, thirst and fatigue. If this were all we had suffered, we would not complain. Thousands have been killed that might not have been killed if you had sent supplies and men. Your neglect has been great.
We want to know why. How can you sit on your thrones in a stupor while your enemies are spreading the work of death around you? They are murdering thousands of your brothers and you have not helped us.
You should have sent armies; you should have sent food. Our men fight and bleed out their lives for you while they starve with hunger.
Unless you repent and send food and men to us and also to Helaman, I will come and stir up revolts against you. I do not fear your power. I only fear God.
I wait for help from you. If you do not send it, I will come to you and kill you with my sword. The Lord said to me: If the leaders do not repent of their sins, you must go to battle against them.
Behold, I am Moroni, your chief captain. I seek not for power, but to pull it down. I seek not for honor of the world, but for the glory of my God and the freedom and welfare of my country. My letter is finished.
