Jesus Christ commanded that the disciples write down these dictated words that his Father had given to the Old Testament prophet Malachi.
The text that Jesus Christ dictates in Chapter 24 of the Third Book of Nephi is virtually indistinguishable, word for word, from Chapter 3 of Malachi from the Old Testament.
“I will send a messenger before me to prepare the way,” said God to Malachi. “The God whom you await will come suddenly to the temple. I will come like a fire that purifies gold or silver to purify my people. I will come to you in judgment with swift punishments for sorcerers, adulterers, liars, oppressors, and those who turn strangers away.”
“I am God unchanging. You have disobeyed my laws and yet I still allow you to return to me. You have robbed me by denying me tithes and offerings. For this you have received my curses. Why don’t you try bringing your offerings to me and receive my blessings instead? Your words against me are filled with arrogance as if I weren’t paying attention. But I have kept a book of remembrance of those who feared and loved me. They will be mine. They will be spared. Then you will see the difference between how I treat the righteous and the wicked among you, and the difference between those who serve God and those who don’t.”
