“When this day comes,” said Jesus Christ, “ these prophecies of Isaiah will be fulfilled.”
The text that Jesus Christ quotes in Chapter 22 of the Third Book of Nephi is virtually indistinguishable, word for word, from Chapter 54 of Isaiah from the Old Testament.
Sing out, Jerusalem, it is time to rejoice. It is time to return to the lands from which you’ve been driven, and to govern the lands that once conquered you. The sorrow of your past is behind you, and is now forgotten. God the Redeemer has returned to you from his abandonment, and will take you back. In his anger he turned his back on you, but in his everlasting love he has shown his mercy.
“Just as I swore to Noah to never again flood the earth,” says God, “so too will I never flood you with my anger. I promise you peace unbroken. I will rebuild your homes, give you prosperity, insure fair government, and keep your enemies away. When the promised day comes, no weapon will defeat you. This is my blessing.”
