3 Nephi 16

“I have other sheep apart from you people in this land, and apart from the people around Jerusalem,” Jesus Christ continued. “These sheep of whom I speak have not yet heard my voice or seen me. But my Father in heaven has instructed me to visit them also, so that I may be seen and heard by them. Although there are many sheep in many lands, there is only one flock and one shepherd. I must go to them now.

“It is my command to you that you must write my words down after I am gone. If the people of Jerusalem do not learn of you and the other lost tribes through the Holy Ghost, then your written history will be made known to their descendants through future Gentiles. These Gentiles who believe will bring knowledge of me, their Redeemer, to the scattered descendants of those who do not believe. I will gather my people together from the four corners of the earth to fulfill the promises that my Father in heaven has made with the entire family of Israel. The Gentiles will be blessed because of their belief in me, and in the Holy Ghost who bears witness of me and my Father.

“ ‘Because of the Gentile’s belief in me,’ says my Father, ‘and because of Israel’s disbelief of you, the fullness of truth in the latter days will be made known to the Gentiles. But curses will fall on those unbelieving Gentiles who come to this land and conquer the scattered outcast descendants of Israel.’ Because of my Father’s great mercy to the Gentiles and because of his judgments against the family of Israel, he will allow his people to be tormented, conquered, afflicted, and killed.

“My Father has instructed me to tell you this, ‘When the day comes that the Gentiles sin against my gospel, reject its truth, inflate themselves with pride, put themselves and their nation above all the other people on earth, lie, deceive, murder, fornicate, perform priestcrafts, and secret abominations, I will withdraw the fullness of my gospel from among them. At that time I will remember the promises I have made to the family of Israel and I will bring my gospel to them. The Gentiles will lose their power over them and the descendants of Israel will know the fullness of my gospel. But if the Gentiles repent and return to me they will be counted among my people, the family of Israel, and I will protect them from being trampled.’

“Those who do not return to me and listen to my voice will be destroyed by my people. Those unrepentant Gentiles will be like salt that has lost its savor and is good for nothing except casting out and being trampled underfoot.

“My father has instructed me to give this land to this people as their inheritance. When this happens, these words of the prophet Isaiah will be fulfilled, ‘The watchmen will lift up their voices together in song because they will see eye to eye when God again brings Zion. Rejoice and sing together you wasted places of Jerusalem. God has comforted his people and redeemed Jerusalem. God has shown his holy arm to the eye of all nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of God.’”
