2 Nephi 28

I, Nephi, have written to you as the Spirit of God has asked me to do, and I know that these prophecies of Isaiah will certainly come true. The book that will be written, which will include these words I now inscribe, will be of great value to all men, and especially to our remnant descendants in this new land because they will be descendants of Israel.

In the last days, church after church will be built up, with each one saying that it is the true church of God. The priests will all compete with other priests to teach their way. But in spite of what they say, all of these churches and all of these priests will not serve God. These priests will say, “Listen to us, because God and Jesus Christ have come and gone, giving us their powers. God no longer does miracles. If someone tells you so, don’t believe them.”

In the last days, many people will say, “Life is brief, so eat, drink, and be merry. Don’t be too afraid of God. Lie a little, take advantage of others when you can, because there is no harm in this. God may slap our wrists, but we will still be saved in the kingdom of God.” Many will teach such false, vain, and foolish doctrines, and be proud of themselves for it. These corrupt teachers will try to hide their works of darkness from God, but the blood of dead saints will cry against them from the ground. To build their fine churches and wear their fine clothing, they rob the poor and persecute the humble. Except for the humble followers of Jesus Christ, many people will deviate from God’s will. Those who are proud and stubborn, who preach false doctrines and pervert the true way of God, and who live immoral lives will be cursed and cast down to hell. But those who truly repent their evil acts will not be destroyed.

In the last days, the great and abominable church, the whore of the earth, will fall to the ground. In so doing, the devil’s kingdom will be shaken and those who belong to it will be moved to repent before the devil lays his everlasting claim to them. In the last days, the devil will incite people to anger against all that is good. Others, he will seduce with a false sense of security, and lead them benignly to hell. To some he will offer flattery, and deny the existence of hell until they are trapped by his trickery. In the end, people will die and be judged by the acts of their lives before God. Those who have been seized by the devil must go to the place prepared for them, a place with a lake of fire and eternal torment. Those who think that all is well in the world, and who listen to men instead of God, will be cursed. Those whose lives are aligned with God will be glad, and those aligned against God will be sorry. Those who say that they’ve received the word of God and need no more of it will be cursed.

Listen to what God says: “I will ration my words to my people a little bit at a time, bless those who listen, and give them more so they can learn. Those who close their ears to me, thinking they’ve heard enough, will receive no more of my teachings and will lose what they already have. Do not put your trust in men or listen to them except those who teach by the power of God. I will curse the Gentiles who refuse to listen even after I have held out my arms to them and shown them my mercy, unless they repent and come to me to be received.”
