1 Nephi 14

The angel continued to explain things to me. “If the Gentiles listen to the word of Jesus Christ when he comes in those last days, and do not turn away from him, they will also be included with the family of Israel and be blessed. If they do this, they will overcome their ignorance and live in freedom in the promised land.

“On the other hand, those who refuse God and maintain their allegiance with the abominable church of the devil’s, will be eternally committed to the great pit of endless hell. This captivity by the devil will be God’s justice to those who are offered blessing and turn away from him.

“Jesus Christ has promised that he will implement a mighty and everlasting transformation of his people involving either deliverance into eternal peace, or consignment to eternal slavery to the devil. Do you remember the covenants that God made with the family of Israel?”

“Yes,” I replied.

“Look,” he said, “at this great and abominable church that is led by the devil. There are really only two churches in the world. One is the church of Jesus Christ, and the other is the church of the devil. Whoever does not belong to the church of Jesus Christ belongs to the church of the devil, which is the whore of all the earth.”

I looked and saw that what the angel said was true. Because of its wickedness, the great abominable church of the devil, the whore of all the earth, spread its influence and abominations across the oceans and nations of the world, gathering unto itself far greater numbers of followers than the church of Jesus Christ.

As I watched, the angel of God showed me multitudes of people gathering to fight with the abominable church against Jesus Christ. I watched as Jesus Christ invested those scattered people who believed in him with his righteous and almighty power. As God’s anger poured out upon the followers of the great abominable church of the devil, wars erupted everywhere on Earth between the Gentile nations.

“Look and see,” said the angel, “how the day will come when God will pour his anger onto the devil’s great and abominable church. When this war begins, the work of God in fulfilling his covenants with the family of Israel will also begin.

“Look,” said the angel.

The angel of God then showed me a man dressed in a white robe and identified him as one of Jesus Christ’s twelve apostles, named John, who would see and write clearly about the end of the world for all to heed. I, too, was shown the end of the world, but was forbidden to write about it. What I have written about here is a small part of what I was shown by the angel of God in the visions that were given to me.
