Mormon 3

Then the Lord said to me: Tell this people that if they repent and come to God and build up his church, they will be saved. But the people would not listen.

The Lamanite king sent a letter to me saying his people were preparing to come kill us. I gathered my people to a land called Desolation, near a narrow passage that leads south.

When the Lamanites came, we beat them back to their own lands. They came again the next year and we beat them again. Many of them were killed and thrown into the sea. Our people began to brag about their power. They made an oath to get revenge on the Lamanites.

I, Mormon, refused to be their leader anymore. I had led them into battle many times. I had loved them with all my heart. I had prayed to my God all day long for them. I had saved them three times from the hands of their enemies, but they would not repent.

I now stood as an idle watcher to write the things I saw and heard. I write to you, Gentiles, and also to you, house of Israel. I write to all the people of the earth.

I write to you so you can know you will one day stand before the judgment seat of Christ. All people must stand to be judged for their good and evil works.

I write so you will believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. I wish I could lead you to repent and prepare to stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
