Ether 6

I, Moroni, continue telling the story of Jared and his brother, Moriancumer. After the Lord prepared the stones to give light, Moriancumer put one stone in each end of the boats to give light to the boats.

The people prepared all kinds of food for their families and food for their flocks, herds and birds they would carry with them. They went into their boats and went to sea. They put their lives in the hands of the Lord.

The Lord made a great wind blow toward the Promised Land and the boats were moved by the waves of the sea. The boats went under water many times, because of the huge waves and terrible storms caused by the fierce winds.

The great wind never stopped blowing toward the Promised Land. When the boats were under water, water could not come in because the boats were tight like a dish. When they were deep under water, the people prayed to the Lord to bring them up again.

They sang praises to the Lord. Moriancumer sang and thanked the Lord all day. When the night came, they still gave thanks and praise to the Lord.

The boats moved on; nothing could stop them. There always was light, both above the water or under the water. They were on the sea for three hundred forty-four days.

Finally they landed on the Promised Land. When they put their feet on shore, the people bowed down in humility and cried tears of joy, because of the Lordโ€™s mercy.

They began to farm the earth. Jared had four sons: Jacom, Gilgah, Mahah and Orihah. Moriancumer also had sons and daughters.

Their twenty two friends also had sons and daughters before they came to the promised land. They began to multiply and spread across the land. They were taught to walk humbly before the Lord.

After some years, Jared and Moriancumer became old. The people wanted a king. This upset Moriancumer; he said to them: A king will lead to captivity. But Jared said to his brother: Let them have a king. Choose a king from among our sons. They chose the firstborn son of Moriancumer, his name was Pagag. But Pagag refused to be their king. The people asked Moriancumer to command Pagag be their king, but Moriancumer would not force him.

All of Moriancumerโ€™s sons were given the chance to be king, but none of them would do it, neither would the sons of Jared, except for Orihah. So Orihah was made king over the people.

King Orihah walked humbly before the Lord. He remembered the great things the Lord had done for them and he taught those things to his people. They were a good people and they began to grow rich.

Jared and Moriancumer died.
