Alma 55

When Moroni read the letter, he was even more angry. He said: I will not exchange prisoners with Ammoron. I know the place where the Lamanites guard the prisoners.

Moroni then looked for a Nephite man whose family was Lamanite. They found Laman who had been a servant of the Lamanite king.

Moroni sent Laman and a small number of his men to the Lamanites who guarded the Nephite prisoners. It was in the evening. When they saw him coming, he said to them: Do not fear, I am a Lamanite. We have escaped from the Nephites while they slept and we have wine.

The Lamanite guards greeted him with joy and said to him: Give us your wine to drink, for we are worn out. Laman said: Let us not drink it now. We should save it until we go to battle.

This made the guards want the wine more. They said: We are worn out. Let us have the wine now. We will get more wine when we go to battle. Laman gave them wine. The wine was strong. The guards soon got drunk and fell asleep.

Moroni had hidden many men just outside the city. While the Lamanites were in a deep, drunken sleep, Moroni’s men threw weapons over the walls to the prisoners until they were all armed. All these things were done in a great silence.

When the Lamanites awoke in the morning, they saw the Nephite prisoners had surrounded them. The Lamanite guards surrendered. So without anyone being hurt, Moroni rescued his people.
