Alma 36

He said: My sons, listen to my words. I promise that if you keep God’s commandments, you will be blessed. Do as I have done; remember all our people. Help to save them in their hardships.

My son Helaman, you are young; hear my words and learn. Whoever trusts in God will be supported during their troubles. God told me these things by his holy angel when I was younger. hen I was a young man, I went with the sons of Mosiah to destroy the Church. But God sent his holy angel to stop us. He spoke to us with the voice of thunder and the whole earth shook under our feet. I fainted to the ground, because I was afraid he was going to destroy me.

I began to feel awful pain for my terrible sins. The thought of coming to the presence of God made my soul feel terror. For three days and three nights, I suffered for my sins. Then I remembered my father taught me about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who would pay for the sins of the world. I cried out in my heart: O Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me.

When I thought this, my pain went away and oh, what joy and wonderful light I did see. My soul was filled with joy as great as my pain! Nothing was as terrible as my pain and nothing was as wonderful and sweet as my joy.

I awoke and stood up. I told the people that I was born again of God. From that time until now, I have worked without stopping to help people repent. I hope for them to taste the great joy I tasted. I hope for them to be born of God and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

My son, the Lord gives me great joy in the fruit of my work. Many souls have been born of God and have tasted his joy. Many have seen eye to eye, as I have.

My son, you should know, as I know, that if you obey God’s commandments you will be blessed. If you disobey His commandments, you will be cut off from His presence.
