Alma 22

Aaron and his brothers went to the king of the Lamanites and bowed down before him and said: O king, we are Ammon’s brothers, whom you rescued from prison.

The king said: I am troubled because of Ammon’s kindness and great words. Rise and teach me. What is the Spirit of the Lord? Why did Ammon say: If you repent, you will be saved; if you do not repent, you will be thrown off?

Aaron answered: Do you believe that there is a God? The king said: I know the Amalekites say there is a God. I let them build churches to worship him. If you say there is a God, I will believe. Is God that Great Spirit who brought our fathers from Jerusalem? Aaron said: Yes, he is the Great Spirit. He created all things.

The king believed and asked: What should I do to have this eternal life and be filled with joy at the last day? I will give up all I have for it.

Aaron said: Bow down before God and repent of all your sins. Call on his name in faith. Then you will have the hope you want.

The king bowed down and prayed mightily, saying: O God, Aaron told me there is a God. If there is a God and if you are God, will you make yourself known to me. I will give away my sins to know you and be saved.

When the king said these words, he fainted to the ground. His servants ran and told the queen all that had happened. When she saw the king, he looked as if he were dead. She saw Aaron and his brothers standing as though they were to blame. She was angry with them. She told her servants to kill them, but the servants did not dare touch Aaron or his brothers.

Aaron then put his hand on the king and said: Stand. And the king stood. When the queen saw this, she began to fear. The king stood and calmed them and taught them.
