When they were about to take the king’s body and bury it, the queen sent for Ammon. She said to him: The king’s servants told me you are a prophet of God and that you have power to do mighty works in his name. Some say my husband is still alive; others say he is dead, that he stinks and should be buried. To me, he does not stink.
Ammon knew the king was not dead. King Lamoni was under the power of God. The light of Christ had overcome the king’s natural strength. Ammon said: The king will wake tomorrow; do not bury him.
Ammon asked the queen: Do you believe this? She said: I have no proof other than your word and the word of our servants, but I believe what you say. Ammon said to her: Blessed are you because of your faith.
The queen stayed with her husband and he did awake. He arose and stretched his hand to his wife and said: Blessed is God and blessed are you. I have seen my Lord. He will come and save all who believe in him.
When he said these words, his heart was filled with joy and he fainted again. The Spirit also overcame the queen and she fainted. When Ammon saw the Spirit of the Lord was poured out on the Lamanites, he was overcome with joy. Ammon also fainted to the ground.
When the king’s servants saw that all three had fallen, they prayed to the Lord with all their might. They, too, were overcome and fainted, all except one woman whose name was Abish.
Abish had believed in the Lord for many years. She had seen a great vision, but she told no one about it. When she saw that the servants, the queen and king, and Ammon, had fainted to the ground, she knew it was God’s power. She thought this would help people believe in God, so she ran from house to house telling everyone.
Many people came to the king’s house. The crowd was amazed when they saw the king and the queen and their servants laying on the earth.
Some blamed Ammon. One of them, whose brother had been killed by Ammon, was still angry. He wanted to kill Ammon, but as he lifted his sword, he fell dead by the power of God.
When the crowds saw the man fall dead, fear came on them all. They did not dare touch Ammon or any who had fallen. They began to wonder among themselves what all these things could mean.
While they were talking, the woman servant took the queen by the hand. As soon as she touched her hand, the queen arose and stood on her feet and said in a loud voice: O blessed Jesus, you have saved me from an awful hell! O blessed God, have mercy on this people!
She said this in great joy and took the king by the hand. He stood on his feet. He began to teach the people the words that Ammon taught.
All those who listened to the king were converted to the Lord. But many would not listen and went on their way.
When the king’s servants rose up, they said their hearts had been changed. They had no more desire to do evil. They said they had seen and talked with angels. Ammon rose up, too.
Many of the people believed and were baptized. They became a good people and they formed a church. In this way, the Lord began his work among the Lamanites.
The Lord began to pour out His Spirit on them. We see that God gives His love and mercy to all who repent and believe in Him.
