Alma 18

They told the king about Ammon’s faithfulness and great power. The king was amazed. He said: Ammon is more than a man. Is he the Great Spirit?

They answered: We know he cannot be killed and we know he is a friend of the king.

The king asked: Where is this man who has such power? They said: He is feeding your horses. When the king heard Ammon was feeding the horses, he was even more amazed by Ammon’s work.

The king said: This man is the most loyal person. He must be the Great Spirit. I want him to come to me, but I do not dare ask.

The king’s servant said to Ammon: Rabbanah (which means powerful king) our king wants you to stay. Ammon came and said to the king: What do you want me to do for you, O King?

The king was afraid to answer for one hour. Ammon was filled with God’s Spirit; he knew the king’s thoughts. Ammon said: Why are you amazed? I am your servant. Whatever you ask me to do, which is right, I will do.

The king asked: Who are you? Are you that Great Spirit who knows all things? Ammon answered: I am not.

The king said: How do you know my heart? By what power did you fight the attackers. If you will tell me these things, I will give you anything you ask.

Ammon was wise and kind. He said: This is what I ask; listen to my words. The king said: Yes, I will listen and believe all your words.

Ammon began to speak: Do you believe that the Great Spirit, who is God, created all things on earth and in heaven? Lamoni said: Yes, I believe he created all things on earth, but I know nothing about a heaven.

Ammon said to him: Heaven is the place where God lives. God sees all people. He knows their thoughts and wishes. He created you, too.

King Lamoni said: I believe all the things you say. Are you sent from God? Ammon answered: God’s Holy Spirit sent me to teach this people. His Spirit gives me great knowledge and power.

Then Ammon taught the king about the Holy Scriptures from the creation of the earth to the time their father, Lehi, left Jerusalem. Ammon taught the gospel plan, the coming of Christ and all the works of the Lord.

The king believed and began to pray to the Lord, saying: Lord, have mercy on me and my people. When he said this, the king fainted to the ground.

His servants carried him to his wife and laid him on a bed. He was still, as if he were dead, for two days and two nights. His wife, sons and daughters cried over him.
