Alma 12

Zeezrom was convinced more and more of God’s power. He said to Alma: What is resurrection of the dead, when both good and evil people must stand before God to be judged?

Alma explained: People may know God’s mysteries. People who open their hearts are given more knowledge about God, until they know all His mysteries.

But people who harden their hearts lose their knowledge about God, until they know nothing about Him. They are taken by the devil and led to destruction. These are the chains of hell.

Our evil words can stop us; our evil works can stop us and our evil thoughts can stop us. Evil people will not even want to look at God. But this cannot be; we must all stand before God in His glory and power and confess our sins. Then a second death will come to evil people. It is a spiritual death. They will be put away from God.

When Alma finished speaking, the people began to be amazed. But Antionah, a chief ruler, said to him: What is this you have said? He asked: How can a person rise from the dead and be changed to never die? Man cannot live forever.

Alma said: This life is the time to prepare to meet God. He gave us commandments, and freedom to choose to obey or disobey. After we die, we will come alive again and our lives will be judged.
