So King Benjamin thought he should take another poll, this time to see how many people had actually made a covenant with God to live by his rules. As often happens in monarchies, the polling was unanimous: every one made the covenant (except children who were under age to make contracts, even with God).
Before he dismissed the people, he appointed priests to teach religion to everyone, since having made a covenant to obey God’s rules, someone needed to tell them explicitly what those rules were. After that everyone went home.
Mosiah immediately started his reign. He was thirty years old and it was 476 years since Lehi’s exodus. Benjamin lived three more years, then died.
Mosiah did right by his dad. Same vein, same style, same character. For instance, he moved further toward an agrarian society, but he didn’t just tell people to farm. He farmed too. A perfect bit of public relations that people liked. No protests or uprisings for three years.
