It has been more than 420 years since the birth of Jesus Christ. Now I, Moroni, will write some things that I think may be of benefit to the Lamanite people in the future. After I finish doing so I will seal these records and hide them away. [AD 421]
I strongly advise that whoever reads this record recognizes that it is through God’s wisdom that you do so. I want you to remember how merciful God has been to men from the creation of Adam through the time that you receive these words. When you do receive my words, I insist that you ask God the Eternal Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, whether or not they are true. If you ask with a sincere heart and faith in Jesus Christ, he will show the truth of it to you through the power of the Holy Ghost. Through the power of the Holy Ghost you may know the truth of everything.
Whatever is good is also fair and true, and anything that denies Jesus Christ is not good. You may know Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Ghost. So do not deny the power of God. This power works through the faith of men, just as it does today, tomorrow, and forever. The gifts of God are numerous, but they all come from God, and must not be denied. These gifts are administered differently, but it is always the same God who brings them all.
One may be given the gift to teach the word of wisdom, and another the gift to teach the word of knowledge. One may be given the ability to work mighty miracles, while another is given the gift of prophecy. One might see angels, while another is given the power to interpret ancient and unknown languages. But all these gifts come from the Spirit of Jesus Christ, to individuals, through his will.
I want you to remember that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that these gifts will never be withdrawn as long as the world lasts, unless men quit believing. So you must have faith, and hope, and charity. Without all of these you cannot be saved and enter the kingdom of God. Without hope you will find the despair that comes with sinfulness.
Jesus Christ said to our ancestors, “If you have faith you can do everything that is necessary for me.”
Now I speak to the whole earth. If the day comes when the power and gifts of God are withdrawn, it will only be because of man’s failure to believe. Pity to man if this is ever the case. If there is even one among you who does good, he will receive the power and gifts of God.
Whoever puts this knowledge aside and dies in their sins cannot be saved in the kingdom of God. These are the words of Jesus Christ. The time will quickly come when you will know that I am not lying to you. You will see for yourself when you stand in judgment before God and he asks, “Didn’t I declare my words to you, written by this man Moroni, as if he were crying out to you from the grave?”
I declare these things in writing so that these prophecies can be fulfilled. They have come from the mouth of God, and proceed from generation to generation. God will show you that what I have written is true. So come to Jesus Christ, embrace his good gifts, and turn away from the evil gifts and filthy things.
As the prophet Isaiah said, “Awaken and rise up from the dust, Jerusalem. Put on your beautiful clothing, daughter of Zion. Strengthen yourselves and expand your borders forever. Don’t be confused any longer. The promises that God has made with the family of Israel will be fulfilled.”
Come to Jesus Christ and be perfected in him. Renounce your ungodliness. If you deny yourself of ungodliness, and love God with all your strength, then his grace will be sufficient for you. Through this grace you can be perfected in Jesus Christ, and unable to deny the power of God. If you are perfected in Jesus Christ, and don’t deny his power, then you are sanctified in him through the blood of Jesus Christ. Through him the promises of God the Father will be fulfilled, your sins will be forgiven, and you will become holy.
I say goodbye now. Soon I will go to the paradise of God until my spirit and body reunite and I am brought triumphantly to meet you before the pleasing judgment of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of the living and the dead.
