God then commanded Mahonri to return from the mountaintop.
Part of what Mahonri wrote was forbidden to men until after Jesus Christ was crucified, wrote Moroni. That is why King Benjamin and his successors kept this knowledge so carefully guarded until after Jesus Christ showed himself to the Nephite people, and commanded that these things should be known.
I have written part of what Mahonri saw because God has commanded me to do so. Never have greater things been revealed to men than were shown to him. God has also commanded me to seal up these records with the magical stones so that the rest of this record will not be known before its appropriate time.
“The content of these visions will be sealed and not given to the Gentiles until they repent and come clean before me,” God said to Moroni. “When that day comes, and they show the same faith in me that Mahonri did, I will show them the same visions and revelations I have shown to him. Those who work against the word of God, on the other hand, will be cursed. At my command, the heavens can be opened and closed, the earth made to shake, and the people of earth destroyed. People who encourage others to do good in my name are with me, because only in my name can good be accomplished. I am the Father. I am the light, the life, and the truth of the world.”
“If the Gentiles and descendants of Israel will come to me,” God continued, “I will show them great things which are hidden because of their disbelief. When this record is received, the people will know that the time of revelation is near, and the final work of God has begun. So, repent and come to me. Believe in my gospel and be baptized in my name. Those who don’t believe will be damned. On the last day of judgment, those who are faithful will be lifted up to live in the kingdom I have prepared for them. Behold, I have spoken.”
