3 Nephi 20

Jesus Christ told the crowd to rise up and stop praying aloud, but to continue praying silently. He broke some bread and gave it to his disciples to eat, then told them to do likewise with the crowd. After this was done he gave them wine to drink, and then told them to do this also with the crowd.

“Anyone who eats this bread, eats my body in his soul,” said Jesus Christ to the crowd. “Anyone who drinks this wine, drinks my blood in his soul. Those who do so will never be hungry or thirsty. They will be filled.”

When the crowd had eaten and drunk the bread and wine that were given, they were filled with the Spirit. They cried out in a single voice giving glory to Jesus Christ.

“My Father in heaven has commanded me to explain the commandment that he has given to you as a remnant of the family of Israel. I have said that the words of Isaiah would be fulfilled. When they are, this will be the completion of the promises made by my Father with his people, the family of Israel. The broadly scattered remnants of Israel’s family will be gathered together and brought to the knowledge of their God who has redeemed them. My Father has commanded me to give you this land as your inheritance. If the Gentiles who scatter my people do not repent after receiving my blessing, then your descendants will go among them as lions go among the animals of the forest, or as a young lion does among amongst a flock of sheep. Even though your descendants will be outnumbered, they will track the unrepentant Gentiles down and tear them to pieces. There will be no rescue for them.

“I will gather up my people like a farmer gathers his wheat after threshing the cut stalks. I will make my people as strong as iron or brass so that they can beat their enemies into pieces. The Gentile’s former wealth will be dedicated to God. It is I, Jesus Christ, who will do this. ‘The sword of justice will hang over the Gentiles on that day, and unless they repent, it will fall upon them and all other Gentile nations,’ says my Father. Afterwards I will reestablish my people.

“I will establish your people in this land to fulfill the promises that I made with your ancestor Jacob1, who is known as Israel. This will be the New Jerusalem. The powers of heaven will be with you, and I will be with you. I am the one whom Moses spoke of when he said, ‘God will raise up a prophet like me among you. You must listen to whatever he says to you. Those who don’t listen to him will be cut off.’”

“Samuel and all the prophets have spoken of and testified about me. You are the children of the prophets, and the children of Israel. When my Father said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants all the people of the world will be blessed,’ it was your family he was talking about. After raising me up, my Father has sent me first to you. I have come to bless you and divert you from sinfulness because you are the children of his promises.

“The Gentiles will be blessed by the Holy Ghost and become the strongest people on earth. They will scatter my people and become tormenters to your descendants in this land. ‘If, after receiving my full gospel, they turn their hearts against me,’ says my Father, ‘then I will turn their sins against them. I will then remember the promises that I’ve made with my people to gather them together and give them back the land of their inheritance, the promised land of Jerusalem.’ This time will come when my full gospel is given to them and they come to believe that I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and they pray to my Father in my name.

“When this time comes, the watchmen will raise their voices and sing together. Everyone will see eye to eye. Their lands of inheritance will be given back to them. There will be an outbreak of joy when my Father comforts his people and redeems Jerusalem.

“My Father will reveal his holy power to the eyes of all nations and all the earth will see the salvation of my Father. They will see that my Father and I are one. This will be the fulfillment of the ancient prophecies of Isaiah that say, ‘Awaken again you holy city of Jerusalem, and put on your best clothing. From this time forward no one will come to you uncircumcised or dirty. Shake off your dust, Jerusalem, and arise. Loosen the ropes around your neck that hold you captive. You have sold yourselves cheaply, but will be redeemed without money.’

“When this day comes, all the people will know that it is I, Jesus Christ, who has redeemed them. This is what Isaiah is talking about when he wrote, ‘How beautiful are the feet of he that brings us this good news, who brings us peace, and says to Zion, that God reigns. Get out of the dirty cities. Become clean vessels of God. Don’t run away in fear because God goes before you, and the God of Israel will guard you from behind. My servant will prosper and be exalted in spite of his appearance of abuse. Kings and nations will shut their mouths and listen to his words.’

“All of this will surely come. The promises of my Father will be fulfilled, and Jerusalem will again be occupied with my people. It will be the land of their inheritance.”
