1 Nephi 6

As a descendant of Joseph of Egypt, I write these things to persuade men to come to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel to be saved. It is my wish that my descendants continue to keep this record of things that are important to God and pass them on to their children and to all the children of mankind.
