Ammoron, their king, sent me a letter stating that if I would return the prisoners, he would give back the city of Antiparah. I sent him a letter telling him we had enough men to take the city of Antiparah by force. We prepared to take the city of Antiparah, but the Lamanites of Antiparah ran away without a battle.
We were sent more supplies and six thousand more men and sixty more sons of the Ammonites to join their brothers, my little band of two thousand.
Now that we were strong, we decided to rescue the city Cumeni. We surrounded the city and camped around it for many nights. We captured all the food and supplies that was sent to them. The Lamanites began to lose all hope for help. They, too, gave up the city to us.
But Ammoron sent a large army of men to take back the city. They were about to defeat us. But my little band of two thousand and sixty fought most urgently. They killed all who fought against them. They performed every command with exactness.
I remembered the words their mothers had taught them about having faith in God. We kept our city Cumeni. After the Lamanites ran away, I gave orders to move the wounded from among the dead and dress their wounds.
Out of two thousand and sixty young warriors, two hundred had fainted because of loss of blood. But to our great amazement and joy, not one of these young men was killed or seriously injured. It was amazing to our whole army that all the young men were spared while one thousand of our brothers were killed.
We believe it was the power of God, because of their great faith taught by their mothers. Their mothers taught them there was a just God and whoever did not doubt would be saved by His marvelous power. They are young, their minds are firm and they continually trust in God.
